Building a Connected Publishing Ecosystem

Start with the core insight, not the platforms

The easiest way to create three disconnected operations is to begin by asking separately what to post on each platform. The Triple Hub Method reverses that process. Begin with the Core Insight: what idea is worth developing, what do you believe, and why does it matter?

Give the idea an owned home

Once the Core Insight is clear, determine whether it deserves a substantial Blog master asset. Place it within your larger content architecture and connect it to relevant supporting or next-step material.

Develop expressions, not duplicates

One valuable idea can become three expressions with different jobs. For Medium, ask what discovery-oriented angle gives the insight another useful entry point. For Substack, ask what direct conversation would make the idea useful to subscribers.

Build internal connections first

Before thinking about movement between external hubs, make sure the owned publishing library is coherent. An article should have a clear Pillar, relevant neighboring ideas, and a meaningful next step when one exists.

Connect expressions according to reader need

Do not manufacture a perfect triangle of links. Make useful continuations easy to find. A discovery adaptation can point to the comprehensive master asset when readers need depth. A subscriber conversation can do the same when context requires it.

A connected next step needs a reason

A strong next step answers one question: why would someone who benefited from this specific piece want this specific continuation? If the answer is unclear, reconsider the connection.

Think in layers of connection

Consider idea connection, topic connection, Pillar connection, reader connection, and hub connection. Connected content means more than adding hyperlinks.

Use Pillar Hubs as maps

A Pillar Hub helps readers see that several individual articles belong to one larger subject. It provides orientation without replacing the individual master assets.

Maintain continuity of the core insight

Cross-platform adaptation creates a risk of drift. The angle, examples, voice, and depth can change, but each expression should remain faithful to the same underlying claim.

An ecosystem can grow one idea at a time

You do not need to design every possible connection before beginning. Start with one clear insight, build the Blog master asset, develop the other expressions where appropriate, and add useful next steps. Repeat with the next worthwhile idea.
